Statement to Members from Leadership

Dear ATSA Members,

At ATSA, we are committed to creating a world where ending sexual harm is a shared responsibility and an achievable goal. Through championing research and treatment, informing public policy, and advocating for best practices, we work together to shift narratives on preventing sexual abuse perpetration.

Recent policy changes at the U.S. federal level may impact the nonprofit sector, including organizations and professionals dedicated to public safety and rehabilitation. While ATSA itself is not federally funded, we recognize that many of our members, as well as those who attend our conferences and trainings, are government employees or work in programs funded by federal, state or local government resources. Changes to funding and workplace policies could impact the environments in which our members work, and we are committed to supporting them through these transitions.

We also acknowledge the growing concern among researchers in our field who are facing potential loss of federal funding for critical studies that inform best practices in prevention, treatment, and policy. Research is the foundation of our work, and we will continue to advocate for the value of science-driven approaches in shaping public policy and intervention strategies.

In times of change, our Strategic Plan continues to serve as a vital guide for our work. ATSA remains dedicated to leading with research, providing education and training, advocating for sound policies, and strengthening our professional community. Now more than ever, our strategic priorities ensure that we stay focused, mission-driven, and responsive to the needs of our members and the field. You can review our full Strategic Plan here: ATSA Strategic Plan.

To ensure we are staying connected with our members and responsive to the challenges you are facing, we are implementing new opportunities for engagement:

Community Gatherings – We will host regular spaces for members to share challenges with one another and with ATSA leadership, creating a forum for support and collective problem-solving. The first Community Gathering will take place on March 17th. Register below to attend.

Feedback Friday Surveys – On the first Friday of each month, we will send out a short, 1-2 question survey to gather in-the-moment information on how policy shifts and other changes are impacting our members. This will allow us to stay informed and adjust our support accordingly.

Throughout these changes, ATSA remains steadfast in our mission. We will continue to support professionals in the field, provide high-quality education and resources, and champion research-driven solutions that prevent sexual harm.

We encourage all members to stay informed and engaged as we navigate these developments together. ATSA is here to support you, and we welcome your insights and concerns about how these changes may affect your work.

Thank you for your dedication to this critical mission. Together, we will continue to advance the work that makes a meaningful difference in ending sexual harm.

Sincerely,

Ainslie Heasman, ATSA President
